  • Sailing builds confidence, teamwork, decision-making, and problem-solving, while introducing young people to Lake Michigan—often for the first time.

  • We offer sailing camps, funding for swim lessons, scholarships to sailing schools, and a high school leadership program. For more details, see our Programs page.

  • Our sailing programs take place at our two Chicago Yacht Club locations, Monroe and Belmont, and also at 31st Street Harbor. Our learn-to-swim programs happen at partner sites across the city. 

  • We work with a wide range of community partners.

  • For our sailing camps and swim lessons, we partner with community organizations, not individuals. For our Grants and Scholarships, we accept applications from any individual in the Chicago area.

  • All of our programs are cost-free for participants.

  • Our sailing programs happen from Spring to Fall, with our Sailing Camps generally running from early June to mid-August. Swim lessons are available year-round.

  • No, you do not need to be able to swim to participate in our sailing programs, but we encourage everyone to take learn-to-swim lessons anyway!
