The Chicago Yacht Club Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to bringing the joys and benefits of boating to all, with primary focus on youth from underrepresented communities.
Established in 1990 by members of the Chicago Yacht Club, the Foundation was created to expand access to Lake Michigan and inspire the next generation of boaters. The Foundation’s programs offer hands-on experiences in boating, water safety, and nautical STEAM education—both on and off the water. Through partnerships with community organizations across the city, the Foundation reaches youth in neighborhoods that have historically lacked equitable access to aquatic resources. Providing financial assistance for sailing education, high-level competition, and postsecondary education has remained central to the Foundation’s mission of equity and opportunity.
Now celebrating 35 years of impact, the Foundation continues to connect Chicago youth with Lake Michigan while fostering a lifelong love of the boating world.
